Kelly M. Barnhart joined the firm in November 2008 and has focused her practice on bankruptcy and restructuring of debt, but has also represented select creditors and trustees in both chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases. She is counsel for R. Clinton Stackhouse, Jr., who is the standing chapter 12 and 13 trustee for the Norfolk and Newport News Divisions of the Eastern District of Virginia.
Ms. Barnhart is a member of the Virginia State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association, for which she is one of the past presidents. In addition, she is a past member of the Bankruptcy Bar Liaison Committee for the Norfolk and Newport News Divisions of the Eastern District of Virginia.
Ms. Barnhart is admitted to practice in the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and in all courts in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ms. Barnhart attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College, and in 1998 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. In 2002, she received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law and enjoyed spending her last year of law school as a visiting student at the University of Notre Dame School of Law.
Beginning in 2010, Ms. Barnhart has been selected as a "Rising Star," which selection has continued through December of 2012. Beginning in 2013, Ms. Barnhart has been selected as a "Super Lawyer," which selection was most recently made in December of 2016. She has also been selected and listed as members of Virginia's "Legal Elite" (Bankruptcy/Creditors' Rights) for 2015 and 2016.
Ms. Barnhart was recently selected to the list of 2020 Lawdragon 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy and Restructuring Lawyers, the 2020 list of Super Lawyers in Virginia, and is to be published in the upcoming 74th edition of Who's Who in America, scheduled for 2021.
